As I set out on an early morning training session; race-walking for 15km, I had only one thing in mind: to walk out 7,5km and back in a competitive time along that busy road.
Walking out in the fresh (cold) air, all went well, but as I turned back the Holy Spirit whispered into my heart: "Just pray"
When the Holy Spirit speaks ... especially when He speaks gently... I have come to realise that those are the times to really give heed. And I did...
It broke my speed and brought my focus in another direction (a deeper way)
As I walked, He lead me in prayer in the following way
and He let me understand the following about when we pray
its about what we do and what we pray during the day
whether at work or at play
This is what I heard him say:
What are you doing on the outside?
In other words - what do passers-by see you do?
I answered that I was walking.
People who see me, can see I am walking.
The next question was interesting:
What are you doing on the inside?
In other words - what's happening in your heart?
I answered that I was talking to Him
People who see me walking, can't see talking with God.
I'm actually communing with God.
On the outside I am an athlete, race-walking
On the inside I am a child, communing with my Father.
What are you doing daily - on the outside? And
What are you doing daily - on the inside?
I was challenged!
About 20 minutes later the Lord shifted my focus to a Taxi driver. And He nudged me to pray for him. God spoke clearly as I prayed:
On the outside, he is a Taxi driver
On the inside ... He is terribly, terribly broken
And He gave me such compassion for that man -
And as I prayed and as he passed by, I looked in his bloodshot eyes
And I saw an expression of devastation, and I saw hate
... And I understood the OUTside IN thing.
On the outside he is a taxi driver
On the inside he is a broken man
And I am still overwhelmed by the compassion the Lord laid on my heart for this man.
I am still praying for him.
How about you?
What are you doing on the outside?
Are you despite what's happening on the outside, communing with God on the inside?
It is a challenge BUT I want to walk this road.
come walk with Me
